Running for Dree

On September 13, 2025, the Superhero Sprint will be back.  It has been quite emotional while doing tasks to make the run possible.  As I will share and have shared before- 5ks with Audrey were very important to me.  Running as a family, was very important to us, because it was something all 4 of us could do together, and it was even something that Audrey and I could do together.  During the weeks after Audrey's first diagnosis of West Syndrome (Infantile Spasms), Audrey and I usually both ran with her in the stroller around 5:45 in the morning before the sun was up (her eyes were sensitive to the sun due to the Vygabatrin (life saving drug).

Ways to help on September 13, 2025,

Volunteer to help with the 5k

Run through the neighborhood with all 4 of us in October 2019 (she was seizure free for the longest point of her life since her first birthday)

Audrey had cute sunglasses that she had to wear since her eyes were sensitive to the sun due to the vygabatrin.

Cutie.  Pop Pop Dan used to sing "Sunglasses at Dark" by Corey Hart to Audrey.

So, on Saturday April 29, 2023, we ran in our first (and only) superhero sprint with the 4 of us.  You can read more about that here.  But here are the cute pictures from that day.  The Huskie hustle was also one of her favorites (to on the grass at).

We ran into some of Audrey's ABA therapists on the trail.
Front Running Hannah decided she needed a push in the stroller.
Pop Pop Dan was rocking the green visor.
Audrey and Hannah loved walking together, running together, pretty much anything together.
Crossing the finish line together!
After Hannah and Audrey crossed the finish line together, my dad and I crossed.
Pop Pop Dan won an award for his age division.  He also won 3rd in his age division for the recent Heritage Days Run.  I had a notebook marking every stop and crossing, but he ran ahead.
We soon met up with Amanda and Grandma Char.  Grandma Char noticed how many people were coming up and saying hi to Audrey.  It was awe inspiring that a non verbal 4 almost 5 year old knew so many people and that so many people knew and loved her.
Dree and some of her favorite people.

So, I ask you to help in any way you can.  Do what best shows your Dree support!! Dress up in a princess dress, look cute in sunglasses, or when you cross the finish line, shout "YAY."  You can also Volunteer to help with the 5kSign up to run the 5k! and Sign up for Team Dree.  If you sign up for team Dree, you can volunteer, run, or just observe from afar and be apart of the party.  Thanks to my colleague Marcie Steuer and my Aunt Pat and Uncle Butch who already donated to Team Dree.  Team Dree hopes to win the peer to peer volunteering and we will have a tent and a place for all of Dree's friends(new and old) to come and party like Dree!

Sponsorships are still available.  See me if you would like to sponsor the 5k.
