May 5 Memories-Dree in DC

Over the last month, Amanda has started to write down memories of Audrey's life.  I have challenged myself to write down a different memory for every day of May.  May Memories of Audrey will help me focus some of my memories, some organized by topic, some chronologically organized.

Today, I am posting on our first trip outside of the Midwest with just Dree. Technically, it was a work trip for Amanda. She was attending the ASAM conference in DC. She didn't want to spend 3 days apart from Audrey, so I got to tag along.

Audrey and I hit the mall. Dree was so easy to do stuff with. We had reservations to see the brand new African American Smithsonian, and Audrey was so well-behaved. After we finished our first day in DC, I walked back with Dree in the stroller. I could have walked the way we came or walked by the White House. I decided against it, as we had things planned in that area later in the trip. When Audrey and I got back to the hotel for a nap, we found out there was a bit of traffic in the area. It turned out that Kanye was at the White House at that time.

We met my good friends Sam and Brad in Chinatown to get dinner. They met 5 month old Audrey in the restaurant. I seem to remember beating Brad in fantasy football later that night.

I rode the Metro with Audrey. We went to places such as Ben's Chili Bowl. She was chill letting me push her in the stroller.

Audrey loved playing in the Smithsonian Museum of American History.

Mandy, Dree and I spent the last night there walking around DC. We walked past the White House. Mandy wanted a sit-down dinner, so we found a nice steakhouse in walking distance. It was a great night. Again, Audrey was super easy-going. We ended the night by walking to the west end of the National Mall to see the Lincoln Memorial.
The Lincoln memorial at night is awesome. It was a warm night and the weather was perfect. We were both moved and energized by Lincoln's prose and the overall grandeur of the monument.

It was a nice short trip. Audrey was so excited to see so many different things. But it was too long without sisters together.

We flew out that morning. When we landed, my mom texted us this picture of Hannah from soccer.
When we got home, Hannah and Audrey were so happy to see each other.
