May 4 Memories- Starwars and Hollywood



 Over the last month, Amanda has started to write down memories of Audrey's life.  I have challenged myself to write down a different memory for every day of May.  May Memories of Audrey will help me focus some of my memories, some organized by topic, some chronologically organized. 

November 8, 2019

It took the Cismesias 2 days short of 5 months, but we made it to Disney.  5 months earlier, Audrey had been diagnosed with infantile spasms, and we postponed the trip.  But on Hannah's 4th Birthday- we made it. And where did we make it to?  To Hollywood (Studios in Disney World).  And of course Hollywood Studios is a place of make believe.  The first place we went to was Toy Storyland.  We got in around 4, so we didn't have much time at our only day at Hollywood Studios, so we did Toy Story land first.  The weather report called for rain.

Why is Dreedressed as Buzz Lightyear and Hannah is Jesse?  Because about a week earlier, the Cismesias were Toy Story for the GPS trunk or treat 2019.

Mandy did pick out pretty awesome costumes for the girls, so we had to use them again.

We did Alien Swirling Saucers, Toy Story Mania, and had a fast pass (yes this was way back in 2019) for Slinky Dog Dash at 8:40.  Slinky Dog Dash was Hannah's most anticipated ride.  It was about 5:30 and we were hungry.  So we walked to Docking Bay 7 to order food. Audrey was funny at the restaurant.  I had to get a Star Wars diet coke.
We walked out through the marketplace and Mandy and Megan went to the only ride in Galaxy's edge at the time: Smuggler's Run.  They waited for the ride, while I pushed Hannah and Audrey around in the stroller.  At this point, the rain was just a mist, and really was a surreal 



November 12, 2019

On the day that, I waited for Megan, Hannah, Mandy and Audrey to wake up to go to the airport.  I decided to download and subscribe to Disney+.  The first show I watched was  first episode of Mandalorian.  I am convinced that November 12 was the only day that our Disney+ account had any show other than Sleeping Beauty or Tangled as the most watched video in the account.  Maybe that's why Audrey didn't like Mandalorian.  We had to wait until  Audrey fell asleep as she could not stand the suspenseful music of Mandalorian.  She would communicate her displeasure when the suspenseful soundtrack came on.

March 27, 2022

On our second trip to Galaxy's Edge, we also first stopped in Toy Story Land.  This time, Audrey's first ride was Toy Story Mania, but her cousins were with her this time.  After that, Audrey was pumped to ride the rides.  She rode Slinky Dog Dash.  She loved all the rides.  She loved Rise of the Resistance which wasn't around when we went 2 1/2 years earlier.

While most of our Disney memories with Audrey are "Dee Dee" or princesses, Star Wars showed that Audrey went with the flow (except for Mando) and was a pretty happy go lucky kid who enjoyed life (and awesome rides).

  When we first lost Audrey, people often said, or we read in grief books, how in child loss it doesn’t get any easier. There was always some variation of:  It’s hard to know what “it doesn’t really ever get any easier” means when you’re first in the throws of it though, and the shock is so intense. I’ve also come to understand that for me, personally, the shock has been profound and longer lasting than for some others. 15 months in, it’s still really hard for me to grasp most days that Audrey is gone, and that it’s permanent. Sisters

For the second straight year, we spent the second weekend of October in Zionsville, Indiana. Yesterday was my mom and dad's 44th wedding anniversary.  They, along with my sister spent the day with Hannah.  Hannah had a great day, she went to the zoo, got Chick-Fil-A, and pretty much had a Yes day with Grandma, Grandpa and Auntie. The reason we went to Zionsville for the second straight October is not just because Hannah loves hanging out with her Aunt Megan, but because of the Our Hearts are Home Conference for Bereaved parents.   Last year, we first attended the conference just two months after Audrey passed.  One year later, the first day of the conference felt much different than one year before.  A lot has changed in one year.  The initial shock that we were sitting in a year ago has subsided and our grief has transitioned.  This year, instead of just participating, Amanda is on the steering committee.  We both have poured sweat and blood...

Together still, just a little different

 So we made it through Thanksgiving.  After the craziest end to the bears game, dinner went really well.  Mandy did  a great job with the turkey and the sides.  We even got some board and card games in at the end.  To wrap up the end of the night, I posted this: For those that we didn't spend Thanksgiving with, I may have been misleading that Thanksgiving wasn't good.  It went well.  There are lots of details left out. I was thankful for being with family.  I do have a lot to be thankful for: Amanda, Hannah, my family (especially my dad) have been really helpful over the last 2 months. But I meant what I posted: Thanksgiving will never be the same.   We went to bed, woke up, did some black Friday shopping, ate some leftovers, worked out, and then decided to watch Moana 2 as a family.  So Mandy bought tickets to the 4:45 show and we did a few more tasks around the house.  I set up my Christmas village, which by the way, ear...
